IAFL Press Release – IAFL Hong Kong Conference

December 16, 2025

Attorney Julie German Evert traveled to Hong Kong to participate in the International Academy of Family Lawyers,  Asia Pacific Chapter Symposium, held December 3, 2025, through December 7, 2025. Attorney Evert visited Seoul, South Korea  before traveling to Hong Kong.

The symposium, hosted at the iconic Murray Hotel in Hong Kong, addressed current developments in cross-border family law disputes, with emphasis on jurisdictional conflicts, international property distribution, and custody matters  arising in multinational marriages.

A central feature of the program was a detailed, multi-jurisdictional fact pattern used regarding the divorce of  an American father and a French mother who lived in Japan, with assets, residences, and children connected to Spain, Hong Kong, France, and the US. Panelists analyzed disputes concerning forum selection, the division and control of property across borders, and the coordination of custody and financial claims pending in different jurisdictions.
